I received another reminder this morning about differences in bond prices. The custodian I use for my client’s accounts is a discount broker. But their bond prices are anything but discount. By doing a little shopping around, I was able to buy 100 bonds for $700 less than the ‘discount’ broker wanted. $700! Or another way to look at it, it boosted the yield on those bonds by 0.125% for 7 years.
If you buy individual bonds, you just gotta shop around.
